Six-bedroom Pearl Bay, villa building stands on a cliff facing the deep
blue western Mediterranean, affording the most stunning sunrise views.
The house, redesigned by the Blakstad team, blends in an effortless manner some of the classi- cal features of a traditional Mediterranean villa with characteristic Ibizan architecture , including an outdoor kitchen, a balcony that overlooks the lush gardens, and sitting areas amongst the terraced landscape.
The overall result is a clear and harmonious combination of nested cubes and relaxed symmetry.
Set in nearly 60.000 m2 of landscaped grounds and featuring a 60 m2 swimming pool, the re- developed Villa Pearl Bay offers a generous 427 m2 of living space set over two floors. Guests can enjoy three spacious living areas open to the sea and set around a central courtyard with dipping pool. Each space provides a di- fferent degree of exposure to the Mediterranean sun or warmth, as seasons dictate.
A kitchen with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, eye-catching cast iron worktops and its own adjoined seating area with corner fire, sits across from an open-air seating area with bar and grill. This is partially screened behind a stylish modernist colonnade which supports a generous frame for trailing plants. The central section of the villa features a dining room with open fire – perfect for the colder months.
Set below this, a luxuriant pool is reached by six steps. Either side are two jumbo sofas on which guests can recline after a swim. Below the pool and on the same axis can be found a secluded circle plunge pool for freshening off or chatting. The sweeping views from the house, which is perched some 145 m above the sea, reach as far as Formentera in the south to Tagomago island to the north.
At the highest point of Villa Pearl Bayare two further conversation pits, one positioned on the roof with a cinema-sized LED display for al fresco screenings. The east side, ground floor-level of the villa is met by fruit trees, offering the spacious bedrooms natural seclusion and respite from the blazing sun. An interior courtyard with arbour nestles among them.
To the north of the villa sits a garden filled with lavender bushes and a highly sculptural water feature. Villa Can Pearl Bay crisp landscaping is completed with beds, paths and perimeter dressed in thousands of pieces of direction-aligned lime-stone.
Re-working the main entrance was particularly important for the success of this project. By adding a pond to the front, and an outdoor lounge and kitchen to the back of the property, the architect re- balanced and re-aligned the villa, to the delight of its occupants. His team also whitewashed the walls, giving the property a greater contemporary feel.
Villa Pearl Bay is located just a few miles from the sought-after resort of Santa Eulària providing easy access to the town’s palm tree-fringed beach, whitewashed and fortified Puig de Missa church, and marina. The Ibiza golf club is moments away, and so are some of the island’s best beaches.
